Hummingbird Feeders

Hummingbirds eat soft-bodied insects, but also obtain energy from flower nectar. Hummingbird nectar can be offered as an additional source of energy. Hummingbird feeders are designed in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. There are two styles typically available—Saucer feeders and bottle feeders. Bottle style feeders tend to hold a larger supply of nectar and offer constant visibility of the nectar level. Perches are optional for hummingbirds, as they can hover as they feed. Hummingbirds have very long, thin tongues that can easily access the small feeding ports. Hummingbird feeders should be washed frequently with warm, soapy water to prevent illness in birds. The Heath hummingbird feeder port cleaning brush is a great tool to ensure the feeder is thoroughly clean. Refer to a migration map to know when it is appropriate to feed hummingbirds in your area.
